Frankenstein, The Monster

A young couple sat talking about a classic story they’re having to review for what we can assume is their college course.

Him – “Frankenstein was a monster in pain due to deep longing I think.”
Her – “Frankenstein was the Dr, he wasn’t the monster, actually.”

She finished her sentence with a small smirk of glee from correcting her friend and I catch her eye with a smile, she smiles back, and I say but only two words.

Me – “Wasn’t he?”

To see the cogs begin to turn in their heads was quite the humble experience, so much so like any good human of the world I needed to share it on the internet because that’s what we do now.

Wanderer of the wind

“Oh bother, I’ve become stuck on a branch”, said the wanderer of the wind

“Shall I help you down?”, asked the monk of the earth

“It’s okay, the wind will take me eventually, thank you for offering.”, said the wanderer of the wind, so days past and there he stayed

“Shall I help you down?”, asked the warrior of the fire

“Worry not about me, the wind will take me when it’s ready. Thank you for offering.”, said the wanderer of the wind, there he stayed until the sabbath day

“Shall I help you down?”, asked the healer of the water

“Thank you but I am fine, the wind will free me when it is my time.”, said the wanderer of the wind, it was there he stayed forever more for the wind could not take him any further because he was stuck on a branch.

“Shall I help you down?”, asked the voice of the void

“I accept your offer.”, said the wanderer of the wind

“Then close your eyes my child and return to me.” said the voice of the void

“Okay.”, and that was the last thing ever said by the wanderer of the wind

Light & Dark

One brother walked in the light, the other in the shadows… Side by side yet worlds apart, only to search for each other day after day until it as time to reunite.

One descended in to madness, one found sanity in the familiar but felt no joy in it. The days passed, the stars came and went. Each night they both looked up and wondered what fates befell the other.

No words needed to be spoken. Their bond is strong, though their paths are separate for now the reunion is almost here.

Her World

She wondered about the world so much that she created her own. It was filled with freedom and wonder, no unlike that of those she had read in all those books as a child, but these were not between pages but of her own mind and a hundred times more magical.

Yet at the same time it was a hundred times harder to return to reality and each time she ventured there the more she wanted to stay. A reality detached from the real, but a place that was a lot safer than what lurked beyond the door that lead outside. Often times she wonder what lay beyond the door, was it better than the world she had created or was it the hellish place she was lead to believe by her doting mother. Either way she would never know.

Bed ridden and dependent on everyone around her she found her own world the better choice, that way she could be free, they could be free.

Sapphire

“I miss you.”

Uttered with tears running down her face and make up destroyed by the flood. She clutches her own arms and digs her nails in hard, drawing more blood with each second she hold on.

“…”

She will never understand. How many times have we returned to this place, how many times have I explained, how many times can we repeat this… How many times do I have to sit here and watch as she falls apart.

How many more times…

“What are you doing this to me?”

Frantically clawing her arm to shreds, her shrills can be heard throughout the building. She hovers on the edge of despair, her entire world revolved around someone else, nothing else mattered and if they were not together then there was no point in living if only to be alone.

“…”

Trying to get her to calm down is so difficult and it’s becoming even harder, even the sedatives are losing their effects now. She never listens to anyone anymore and explodes at the slightest memory. Just looking at her tearing chunks out of her skin makes me feel terrified, but the second they try to pull her arms apart she will dig in even deeper and cause herself more damage; just as before.

“Where have you gone?”

Staring in to her eyes that were once likes sapphires I can see her thoughts become entangled, tripper over one another unable to make sense of anything. I wish she would just forget.

“…”

I don’t know what option I have to calm her down, I don’t know how she can deal with this anymore. It’s been 6 years and in glorious routine today is the day we arrive back at square one once again. I thought she had really made progress after the last time, the psychiatrist seemed to have such high hopes.

Why can’t she just let it go.

“What did I do wrong?”

If only I could reach out and hold her. She did nothing wrong, she did all she could… Nothing could have stopped it.

“…”

“Why didn’t you love me anymore?”

I still love you now. If only my words could reach her perhaps her torment would subside, perhaps she would be able to accept the truth.

“…”

I’m sorry I could’n’t stay.
I’m sorry I couldn’t hold on any longer.
I’m sorry I left you alone in this world.
I’m sorry….

“Why did you leave me! WHY!”

Words screamed with glass shattering power. Finally the orderlies rush in to find Elizabeth curled in the corner, blood seeping through the restraint jacket. One hold her down while she continues to scream, the other administers as sedative.

Shortly after her struggle starts to cease she is rendered unconscious, laying next to the only thing she has left, his ashes.

“…”

I’m sorry…
